We were evicted from the Palmetto Den in August for oweing something like $5000 in back rent. A scam really, it was more like $3000, but the landlord had Parkinsons Disease and moved his jaw in a way that bent our defense mechanisms back on themselves. No Future.
I spent the month of September sleeping in cars, on couches, on busses, and in a park. When you have nowhere to stay it is sometimes better to take enough drugs to ride out the dark part of the night and then nap on a hillside in the morning. There will be no final exam, but feel free to take notes.
In the end I went to Bogota, for reasons I dont feel comfortable admitting, not even to myself. But what’s done is done, we’re stuck here now in this old Spanish town, thousands of feet above the sea, a cold fog that makes it’s way deep inside. There are never enough blankets here, the Bogota cold leaves one all day in bed, without energy enough to go to the kitchen for a cup of coffee. My roommate is a gentle lunatic, a lost Englishman. Both our heads are shaved.
